Beijing, 11 November 2014 – On 11 November during the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting in Beijing, the Heads of State of the 21 APEC Economies officially declared: “We endorse the APEC Action Agenda on Advertising Standards and Practice Development to promote alignment of advertising standards and reduce the cost of doing business across the region.”
The meeting was a follow-up to APEC’s Senior Official Meeting held in August including a forum and mentoring workshop on best practice advertising regulation, jointly hosted by the Chinese Association of National Advertisers (CANA) and the Australian Advertising Standards Bureau. The event built on the insights of the recent APEC Policy Support Unity study, which noted the use of the Consolidated ICC Code of Advertising and Marketing Communications Practice (the ICC Code) as the globally accepted best practice principles. ICC and member representatives across the self-regulatory community have been actively engaged in supporting this initiative to align advertising standards across APEC markets.

Last week, as the advertising world descended on New York for Ad Week, USCIB helped host a timely meeting of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC)’s Marketing and Advertising Commission at the headquarters of 21st Century Fox.
